As I have forayed into the job market over the past couple weeks it seems a little like I have entered a strange dimension…to quote Mr. Serling:
“a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You’re moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You’ve just crossed over into… the Twilight Zone”
To what benefit would it be for an organization to take an individual with management experience at the Director level, years of core DBA experience, Oracle RAC/ASM/ASO, PL/SQL on Oracle/MySQL/MariaDB, automation and process improvement capabilities, with a firm understanding of DevOps, and a myriad of other skills and try to put them into a Help Desk type role?
I am not quite understanding these new approaches at hiring. Most importantly I would not be satisfied doing that kind of a job and would be hitting the road at the first opportunity due to boredom. Is it a method of filling a seat and who cares about the level of experience or what someone could bring to an organization? Short term seat filling at best would be my take.
Maybe some would be happy with it, but I have never been one to accept mediocrity for a paycheck. Why would I start now…the search continues…
😉
Best of luck! I have no doubt you will find something great.
